Deleting your data

How to ask us to delete what the Taiyabah Masjid app holds about you, what we delete, and the few things the law makes us keep. Last updated 21 September 2026.

How to ask

There is no form to fill in and no account to close. Tell us in whichever way suits you:

Say which app you used — the Taiyabah Masjid app, published by Bolton Central Islamic Society — and give us the name, telephone number or email address you used on the form, so we can find the right record.

We answer within one month, and there is no charge. We will tell you what we deleted and what, if anything, we had to keep.

What gets deleted

Everything in this list is deleted in full on request:

Hall bookings
Your name, address, telephone number, the dates you asked for and the notes on the booking.
Nikāḥ requests
The contact name, telephone number and email address, the dates, and anything written in the notes box.
Charity collection requests
The organisation’s name, address, telephone number and email, the collector’s and trustee’s names and contact details, the name signed on the declaration, and the BMCC certificate you uploaded.
Questions to the imams
Your name, telephone number and email address, what you said the question was about, the question itself, and any answer an imam sent you. Ask the office and it is deleted; you do not have to say why, and you do not have to repeat the question to anybody in order to have it removed.
Notification registration
The device identifier and preferences held by OneSignal.

You can delete the notification registration yourself at any second, without asking us: turn notifications off in the app, or in your phone’s settings, or uninstall the app.

What stays on your phone, and never reaches us

Your language, text size, Qur’ān bookmark, favourites and downloaded pages live on your device only. We cannot see them and cannot delete them for you. Clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it removes all of them.

What we have to keep, and for how long

Two things survive a deletion request, and only these:

Payment records
Six years. Where you paid a hall deposit, a nikāḥ fee or made a donation, charity accounting law and HMRC require us to keep a record of the transaction. Stripe holds the payment itself under its own privacy policy; ask them separately.
The marriage register
Permanently. Where a nikāḥ actually took place, the record of the marriage is a register the masjid must keep. A request that did not lead to a nikāḥ is deleted in full.

Where we keep a payment record we remove everything not needed for the accounts, so what remains is the transaction and its reference rather than a file about you.

What we delete anyway, without being asked

Most of this clears itself on a timer, whether or not you contact us:

Nikāḥ requests
Deleted twelve months after the request is dealt with, unless a nikāḥ took place.
Charity collection requests
Deleted twelve months after they are completed, declined or withdrawn, by a job that runs every night.
Questions to the imams
Deleted twelve months after the last thing happened on the question, together with the answers, by a job that runs every night.
Unpaid hall bookings
The hold is released after thirty minutes and the request is deleted.
Hall bookings
Kept for the booking and six years afterwards, as above.
